How To Connect Your Mouse

Wired Mouse

Connect the USB cord from your mouse to one of the USB ports on the back or side of your computer (seen right). Connect the mouse cable to a USB port hub if you’re using one.

The computer should immediately install the drivers and give basic functionality after the mouse is attached. Additional software may be required to change the behavior of any specific buttons on your mouse.

Bluetooth Mouse

A Bluetooth mouse uses a Bluetooth signal to connect to a computer wirelessly. The PC must have Bluetooth built-in or be connected to a Bluetooth adaptor.

Follow the steps below to connect a Bluetooth mouse to your computer.

  • Make sure Bluetooth is enabled in your computer’s Bluetooth utility. If Bluetooth is enabled, an icon that looks like the Bluetooth symbol appears in the notification area.
  • If your mouse has an On/Off switch, turn it on. Check the Bluetooth utility to see if the Bluetooth mouse is detected.
  • Select the Bluetooth mouse from the Bluetooth device list and click the Pair button when the Bluetooth utility finds it.
  • The mouse connects to the computer if it is successful.

Serial Mouse

Connect the mouse to the computer’s serial port on the rear. If your computer has multiple serial ports, we recommend attaching the mouse to the first one. Once connected, you may need to configure the mouse COM ports in the BIOS configuration, depending on your computer setup.

Serial ports are no longer seen on most computers today. Because most serial mice are specialized, you’ll need to download and install the software that came with it or from the mouse’s manufacturer’s website.

Ps/2 Mouse

Connect the mouse cable to the green-colored PS/2 connector on the back of the computer (seen right). Use the mouse port furthest from the left side of the computer chassis if your PS/2 ports are not color-coded (when viewed from the back).

The computer should immediately install the drivers and give basic functionality after the mouse is attached. Additional software may be required to change the behavior of any specific buttons on your mouse. If your mouse isn’t working, check out our mouse troubleshooting area.
